Dundee United defeat Raith Rovers in the Scottish League Cup

Dundee United won by a 2-0 score against Raith Rovers in the Scottish League Cup on 15th of July.
The opener was fired into the top right corner by Paul McMullen in the 59th minute from Scott Allardice’s pass. The next goal came 13 minutes afterwards after a foul from Samuel Stanton. James Keatings managed to convert the penalty successfully widening the gap by 2 goals.
Both goals were first successful scorers’ efforts in the Group C match.

United managed to gain the win this time, but they cede to Cowdenbeath in the league on scored goals. After Cowdenbeath’s win 4-2 win against Buckie Thistle, they have gained the lead in their group.

United tried to break past Raith’s defence in the second half, as, McMullan fired a low shot, but was held off by Aaron Lennox as he tried the second time.

Keatings made an effort against Lennox shortly afterwards, but the visitors’ keeper managed to expertly secure his side. However, shortly afterwards Keatings received the chance to score against him from a penalty opportunity, which he successfully did.
Billy King tried to score past Lennox, which he managed to save, after which Buchanan made an unsuccessful attempt for Raith.

Despite Rath’s attempts, United performed much better, making thrice more shots on target. The hosts will have to boost their number of goals in future in order to advance past the 1st placed in their group.
