Manchester City defeat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup

Middlesbrough was eliminated from the FA Cup with the defeat against Manchester City on 11th of March. The visitors have advanced into the FA Cup semi-finals due to their two successful shots on target.

David Silva scored the opener only three minutes after the beginning of the match. He collected Pablo Zabaleta’s low cross-launching the ball from six yards.

Middlesbrough has shown a strong defence with their keeper, Brad Guzan, who saved 8 from 10 shots on target, including dangerous efforts of Aguero, Silva and Sane.
The second goal came from Aguero when he fired from Sane’s cross past the home keeper, sealing the win for City.

With this win, they climb to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. They were previously seen in the semi-finals four years before. They will play the second leg match against Monaco on 15th of March, where they are currently in leading with a 5-3 score.

Middlesbrough has suffered not only a defeat but also gained some injuries to team’s relevant players. The forward, Rudy Gestede mustered two efforts but was substituted in the 26th minute due to a back injury. Their defender, Bernardo limped off in the second half to be replaced by Dael Fry, who appeared the second time on the field since the beginning of this season.

Boro is currently the 18th in the Premier League table and have 11 more games to play, where they should concentrate on maintaining their current position.
