Manchester United Gain the win against RSC Anderlecht
Manchester United defeated RSC Anderlecht with a 2-1 score, which got them into the semi-finals of the Champions’ League at Old Trafford on 20th of April.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the score in the 10th minute with a low shot.
The visitor’s side managed to equalize the score not long after the opener, with Sofiane Hanni’s strike.
United struggled long to overturn Anderlecht, with many successive failures, which were accompanied by injuries to the striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Marcos Rojo.
There was a high probability that the game would end with a penalty period. However, Rashford prevented it with his goal from Marouane Fellaini’s pass.
United created many chances, but such players as Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba were at fault for keeping up with an inconsistent teamwork. If they are truly aiming to have a chance in the Champions’ League further games, they will have to revise their strategy, as keeping the teamwork at highest levels is a minimal requirement for succeeding in this competition.
United’s victory in this match was gained with a couple of critical injuries. They could hardly afford to leave Ibrahimovic out in the following games, but before the end of the match, the striker limped off the stadium due to the previous dangerous attempt of gaining the ball. The situation with the defender Marcus Rojo who was carried out on a stretcher is also not an easy one, as they already lost other two defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, and it would be more challenging for them without Rojo.
United will take a break now from the Champions League and will play their next match against their Premier League opponents, Burnley on April 23rd.
