Monaco defeat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League
Monaco showed an impressive game beating Borussia Dortmund in the second-leg match of the Champions’ League quarter-finals by a 3-1 score on 19th of April. In the first-leg encounter, Monaco won by a 2-3 score.
The home side opened the score in the 3rd minute when Kylian Mbappe fired from close range.
Radamel Falcao doubled the score in the 17th minute putting Dortmund by a 3 goal aggregate behind.
After the break, Marco Reus went in front to score the first one for Dortmund.
The visitors still had some chance after Reus’ goal. However, it was late for them after the substitute Valere Germain sealed the win with the third goal for Monaco.
The home side was on top in the first half, and after Mbappe’s early opener, the visitors’ spirit was put to the test, and it may have played a role in their further performance.
For Dortmund, it may have been stressing to accommodate after their start delays in the previous game, and this one – when the local police interrupted their preparation holding them for 20 minutes before the match. Their start was slow with them trying to be careful after conceding three goals in the first-leg, but their task became much harder after Monaco scored twice before the break.
Monaco remains undefeated in this Champions League season at their home stadium, Stade Louis II. They are now in the semi-finals with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus.
