Netherlands defeat England in Women’s Euro 2017

Netherlands beat England by a 3-0 score in the semifinal of Women’s Euro 2017 on 3rd of August.
England seemed to be in a good shape until this match. It became a crucial loss, as they aimed to gain their first trophy in a major tournament. They were previously defeated by Japan in the 2015 World Cup semi-final.

The opener was fired by Vivianne Miedema in the 22nd minute from a powerful header.
Danielle van de Donk doubled the score in the second-half finishing Fara Williams’ effort.
Mille Bright sealed the score with the third one collecting Lieke Marten’s shot and firing past England’s keeper in the extra minutes.

England seemed to be convinced that this time they will manage to reach the final of the competition, but despite many efforts, they could never ram past hosts’ defence. Mark Sampson brought the team in a great shape reaching 2 semi-finals in successive tournaments, but it looks like more work has to be done, before advancing further.

England finished as the top Euro team in the World Cup being top rated in this competition. Their elimination has surely squandered the hopes and views of many. The team might experience a lot of changes before the 2019 World Cup in France.

The Dutch proceed as the favourites having previously beaten Denmark by a 1-0 score in the opening matches.
