Pakistan defeat England in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy
Pakistan beat England by eight wickets in the Champions Trophy’s final in Cardiff on 14th of June.
When Azhar Ali made a 76 and Fakhar Zaman had already 57, Pakistan had an obvious victory with 12.5 spare overs.
The final score stood with England’s 211 made in 49.5 overs and Pakistan’s 215-2, which they got by the 37th over.
It is a huge blow for England, as captain’s Eoin Morgan’s men were among of the favourites in this championship.
It was also an unexpected Pakistan victory. They had it difficult after the defeat against India in their first game and the amazing victory over Sri Lanka in their recent game. From the other side, England was keeping a good display until Pakistan didn’t ruin their hopes for a Champions Trophy final.
England still had a victory hope during their early wickets. However, Fakhar damaged their plans, as he gave it all at the new ball.
If England had won the Trophy this time, it would be their first title in this competition, however, a similar outcome could be seen in 1992’s World Cup final when Pakistan defeated England by 22 runs.
England will play further in the Twenty20 series. Their next game will be against South Afrika after one week. Pakistan will play against Bangladesh or India in the final at The Oval on Sunday, 18th of June.
