Real Madrid defeat Bayern Munich in the Champions League
In the second encounter of the Champions’ League quarter-finals between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, the Spanish side came out victorious by a 4-2 score on 18th of April.
Bayern was at the top when Robert Lewandowski opened the score converting successfully the penalty in the 53rd minute.
However, it wasn’t long as Real let them maintain the lead. 14 minutes off the official timeout Ronaldo scored from Casemiro’s cross.
Bayern was fast to respond, and just 36 seconds after Ronaldo’s goal, Sergio Ramos rammed Madrid’s defence and made his team regain the lead against the Spanish side triggering extra time.
Bayern’s midfielder Arturo Vidal got his first yellow after a foul on the edge of his team’s territory. He got his red one in the 84th minute after a challenge on Madrid’s substitute Asensio. The German side remained with a 10-man team towards the ending minutes, and it became a nearly impossible mission for them to overturn Madrid in the remaining time.
Ronaldo scored his second one from Ramos’ pass lifting his team to a 4-3 aggregate. However, the goal appeared to be unfair, as Ronaldo was clearly in an offside zone, to which the Hungarian referee Viktor Kassai made no remarks.
As it seemed, Madrid won conveniently against their German opponents, to which the Bayern manager, Carlo Ancelotti noted about the need of better referees in the quarter-finals of such important competition.
It was an entertaining match that extended to 180 minutes, and Ronaldo managed to close the score with his brilliant third, scoring his 100th goal in the Champions League matches.
Madrid has progressed into the semi-finals, and they will discover their opponents from the draw, which will be made on Friday, April 21st.
