Southampton Victorious against Watford in Premier League
On 4th of March, Southampton defeated Watford with a 3-4 score at Vicarage Road. The Saints had their defense broken in the early of the first half when Troy Deeney launched the opener from close range in the 4th minute.
The score was equalized on 28th minute by Dusan Tadic’s shot. In the additional minutes of the first half, Nathan Redmond put the visitors’ side ahead, after a successful effort.
Stefano Okako equalized the score 10 minutes before the end of the match, giving hope to the home side for a better outcome. However, shortly afterward two goals from Manolo Gabbiadini and Redmond assured Saints victory in this round.
Watford mustered another effort in the additional minutes when Abdoulaye Doucoure fired the finishing goal, but it was already too late to make any necessary changes.
Watford had up till now only one defeat in six league games. Their first throw-in was due to Younes Kaboul’s throw that landed at Deeney who passed further to Stefano Okaka who gave it back to their captain firing into the net from close range. This was Deeney’s 105th goal, which puts him alongside the fourth top scorer in Watford history, Cliff Holton.
Manolo Gabbiadini moved from Napoli in January and scored already five goals in three games. He seemed to be the most dynamic player from Saints. He scored two goals in the final cup match, and this time he could net another one in the second half, but the opportunity was missed as he was near the keeper. Just later he scored his sixth goal for his team.
Southampton will play next against Tottenham on March 19th and Watford will play against Crystal Palace on March 18th.
